AIRWALK

Forestry Tasmania has launched into a new, imaginative era of tourism with the opening of the $4.3 million Tahune Forest AirWalk and Visitor Centre on 1/7/2001
The development will be the first facility on State forest where visitors will pay for using the amenities.

Stage one of the project involves the construction of the AirWalk, the Visitor Centre and the sealing of the 26 kilometre section of the road from Geeveston to Tahune. The facilities will be run by Forestry Tasmania. The project has evolved from a partnership between the Huon Valley Council, the State Government, Forestry Tasmania and the local community.

The AirWalk is 620 metres long, and varies between 25m and 45m in height. It is constructed of galvanised steel, timber and glass.

EAGLE GLIDING at the Tahune Forest AirWalk

Eagle Gliding offers fun and exhilaration for all ages as an innovative, and safe flight though the surrounding 70mt high forest and over the Huon River.

This attraction should satisfy those with a sense of adventure and the wish to experience the sensation of soaring like an eagle.

Eagle Gliding represents an 'ADECO' experience. That is combining adventure and ecology by providing a flight simulation themed towards the endangered wedge-tailed eagle.

A hang glier is carried on a 220mt long static cable that supports the passenger and glider. The total flight being over 400mts.

As passengers progress from the take-off platform they experience a steep, exciting retreat offering spectacular scenery and heights of up to 30mts. They are held in a stationary position at the summit of the cable where they remain for some 10 seconds to enjoy the view and their position. Passengers are then released to fly down the cable, through the forest canopy and over the inky waters of the Huon River back to the take-off platform.

A unique flight that provides excitement, adventure and superb scenery.
